In the sixth episode of the Spokane International Film Festival’s 2011 Filmmaker Forums, Eastern Washington University’s Professor of Screenwriting, Film Industry Law, Theory and Criticism, Marvin Smith moderates short film entry filmmakers Don Hamilton (The Big Sayonara), Adam Harum (Disintegration: The Life of Jonathan Willoughby), Chris Rausch (Mad Dog and the Flyboy) and Jef Faulkner (I Hate Basketball) as they discuss the experiences that led to the creation of their shorts.
Topics covered in the episode include the 48 Hour Film Festival format that many of the panelists cut their teeth on, how they dealt with schedule and budget constraints, and how making the shorts they submitted to SpIFF 2011 was different from previous filmmaking experiences. The audience also asked what the filmmakers thought of shooting in the Inland Northwest, and what Spokane could do to become a more film friendly location, and about current Washington State legislation for the Film Political Action Committee (Film PAC).
