For years, the Spokane International Film Festival (SpIFF) has stayed true to its slogan, “See What The World Is Watching.” And this year is no different.
The festival kicks off tonight at AMC Theatres downtown at 7pm with the German film My Words, My Lies…My Love, directed by Alain Gspone and starring Goodbye Lenin‘s Daniel Bruhl. My Word, My Lies… My Love tells the story of an aspiring writer who discovers an unpublished manuscript and pretends it is his own. The manuscript gets him famous and helps him get the girl… until the “real” author steps forward.
Local author Jess Walter, who penned the award-winning Citizen Vince and The Zero, will host. Director of the Oscar-nominated short Let’s Pollute Geefwee Boedoe will also be in attendance! Let’s Pollute will precede My Words, My Lies… My Love.
Following the showing, the SpIFF 2011 Opening Night Party will take place on the first floor lobby of River Park Square. Snack on food from PF Chang’s, Sushi Maru, Twigs and Rock City Grill, and sip on beer from Stella Artois and wine from Arbor Crest while you chat about the films.
Entrance to the soiree is free with a ticket stub from My Words, My Lies…My Love. If you aren’t able to attend the films, but would like to attend the party, a $10 donation will be accepted.
SpIFF has films and events scheduled through Sunday, February 13th. Films will show at both AMC Theatres in Downtown Spokane, and the Magic Lantern Theatre. Keep your eyes peeled for information on the SpIFF Closing Party on Saturday, February 12th.
Note: While the Closing Party is on Saturday the twelfth, there are more Films being shown on Sunday the thirteenth.
