Thanks to everyone who came to the kick-off meeting last week, or who got in touch with us to share their ideas before the meeting — we got a lot of great input and are working to put all of that information into practice.
For that reason, we’re also looking for volunteers to donate a few hours every month to FAVES. So if you want to get more actively involved in the filmmaking community in Spokane, if you’re a student and need community service hours to make you look selfless on your resume, or if you’ve just got some time on your hands, check out our open positions.
To apply for a volunteer position, send a resume of your work as it relates to the film industry, a summary of your interests in the realm of film and filmmaking (from video editing to reviewing movies), which position you’re interested in, and the estimated amount of time you’d like to donate each month to [email protected]
We need volunteers for our:
Organizational Committee: Help oversee the organization and plan for its future
Organizational Chair:
- Organizes and presides over organizational/planning meetings
- Oversees all committees and makes sure that they adhere to schedules
- Puts together master schedules and calendars for FAVES
- Actively plans for the future of FAVES, including investing 501c3 status
Fundraising and Discovery Chair:
- Manages FAVES finances
- Works with other committees to raise funds for FAVES and identify possible funders
- Researches possible grants and works with the Organizational Chair to map out FAVES’ future
Events Committee: Plan and facilitate FAVES events
These tasks can be divided between several individuals working as a team
Generate and implement plans for FAVES events, which includes but isn’t limited to:
For all events:
- Deciding on event topics
- Setting event dates
- Finding event locations
- Forwarding speaker/guest instructor bios or contact information to the Communications Committee
- Arranging for documentation of events: camera operators, cameras (this crew might help with mic-ing and lighting)
- Making sure that you are on hand to greet speakers or guest instructors before the event
- Sending thank-you notes to speakers and guest instructors, locations, any coordinating organizations
- Assisting with clean-up
For panels:
- Finding and engaging speakers, MC
- Setting up locations: MC’s chair, tables, table clothes, name plates, mics, lights if needed, glasses of water
- If the speakers have footage to show, making sure you have a copy and that’s it set up to show before the panel
For labs:
- Finding and engaging guest instructors
- Procuring equipment/materials to be on hand
- Setting up locations: different stations; lecture area; screening area; etc
Communications Committee: Write blogs, edit video from events or help us advertise
Web Content Chair:
- Assigns blog entries to bloggers (probably writes some blogs, too)
- Proofreads blog posts and uploads finalized blog entries
- Makes sure that all blog entries and uploads (photos, videos) are ready on time
- Composes FAVES Newsletters and other email announcements
- Provides info on posts to Advertising crew for social media madness
Bloggers:
- We’d like anyone who wants to write about upcoming events, short bios or interviews with FAVES event speakers or local filmmakers, review movies… basically, if you’d like to blog about anything film related, let us know!
Video Editors:
- We need people to help edit footage from our events and possibly promotional FAVES videos for posting on our website and showing on CMTV — hopefully work with CMTV on this.
Advertising (will probably work with Outreach Committee):
Can be divided among a group of people.
- Post FAVES meetings and events on all community calendars
- Post FAVES meeting and events in the free Inlander community calendar
- Keep FAVES current on Twitter and Facebook
- Create and post FAVES Flyers
- Possibly Create a FAVES promotional video
- Brainstorm and implement guerrilla advertising for FAVES and FAVES events
Outreach Committee: Reach out to local schools, production houses and filmmakers
These tasks can be divided among a team of people.
Work to form relationships between FAVES and
- high school film teachers and students
- college film professors and students
- local production houses and other film-related business
- local filmmakers (individuals, small groups)
- local film organizations — Flicker, SpIFF, KNIFVES etc
Attend (and organize?) networking events around town to spread the word about FAVES
ReelSpokane: Help organize and put on our biennial short film event at the Magic Lantern
Those interested in this committee can divide tasks among themselves according to their expertise, and can possibly be taken from other FAVES committees. Contact us if you’re interested.
